In 2005, Belize Natural Energy discovered oil in commercial quantities at Spanish Lookout in Central Belize on its first exploration well, Mike Usher #1 (MU1).

Anticline:

Rock layers folded in the shape of an arch. Anticlines deep underground sometimes trap oil and gas and are highly sought after by petroleum prospectors.  The rock beds trap rising hydrocarbon fluids, allowing oil and gas to build up in the pore space of the anticline rocks.
